Reports On Pending Resolution Of Court Case, Team Color Scheme
|
Just a quick update. (I know, I'm writing this after the actual ruling, but some of the other details are also important.) Bullets beat reporter J.A. Adande and Thomas Heath of the Washington Post reported that the Bullets could soon receive a ruling in the court case on whether they can use the Wizards name next year. They were sued by the Harlem Wizards last year to protect their claim on the "Wizards" name. Arguments were heard in August, and it's been mostly waiting since then for a ruling. All indications are the ruling could be coming as early as Friday, January 10. (In fact, it was released then, as discussed in a later article.)
The other bit of interesting rumor was on the team logo and colors for next year. According to a source who claims to have seen the logo, it has a caricature of a wizard with a basketball. (Let you imagination run wild with that; the basketball will probably be a bit larger than the wizard so it can at least stand out.) The color scheme would reportedly be similar to the Washington Capitals (of the NHL): copper, off-shade of blue (a blue-grey, possibly a cobalt blue--I'm bad with naming colors), black and white. (A copy of the Capitals logo can be seen here.)
I'm torn on the color choice (did Abe get a deal on paint for the new arena?), but CWebb seems to like it. When asked about it, he called the color scheme "pretty cool." Still, we'll see when they announce the final results. Indications are the Bullets will introduce the new colors and logo in April, the earliest the NBA will allow them to do so.
