Mid-Month Odds 'N Ends

Yup, it's time to cover some odds-n-ends that have built up in this dry period in the Bullets schedule. It seems the writers have been busy trying to justify their existence the past couple of days.

Do you remember Leon Wood? He played with the Bullets at one time for about a year; now, he's a referee in the NBA. Anthony Cotton of the Washington Post got up close and personal in looking into the only rookie official in the NBA this season.

It makes for an interesting story, from his All-American and Olympic team days, to his unfulfilled pro career, to his officiating career. He's even officiating games with players that he played with and against, even from his early year. An interesting look into the life of an NBA referee.

Tim Legler visited the doctor last Friday, and he now has complete clearance to begin practicing with the team. That's good news. He'll practice, when there's time, for the next 10 days. The team is tentatively looking at him returning on January 28, when they host the Orlando Magic.

The next question is, who does he replace? Does Ben Wallace or Ashraf Amaya suddenly develop a case of tendonitis? Will they release Jaren Jackson, who's our best defensive guard? We'll just have to see, won't we.

The Bullets were feeling confident about their recent road trip (which is really part of a much longer East coast swing, with a couple of home stops thrown in). (And this was before there loss to the Heat on Friday.) But, looking back on the comebacks in the Bulls and Heat games, they feel they have nowhere to go but up.
