Unfortunately, a member of the Bullets broadcasting team will be leaving for a good job. As described in a Washington Post sports column, by Leonard Shapiro, Bullets TV play-by-play man Mel Proctor will be leaving in March to handle 125 games for the San Diego Padres.
It's odd that he'll be leaving in the middle of the Bullets' season, but he's choosing to get a full baseball season instead. It's unclear how will take his place, although possibilities include Charlie Slowes (the Bullets' radio play-by-play announcer) and Johnny Holiday (Maryland Terrapins football and basketball announcer).
I've always liked Mel Proctor's coverage of Orioles' and Bullets' games. He's not overbearing, describes the game well, and just seems to have a pleasant on-air personality. It's going to be a loss for the Bullets.
