Magic Cast Spell Over Soon-To-Be Wizards

21 January 1997. Orlando Magic 93, Washington Bullets 88 (record: 20-20)
Game leaders: Strickland (21 points), Webber (13 rebounds), Strickland (8 assists)

After getting to 4 games over .500 for the first time in 12 years, the Bullets continued their slide back into averageness with a lackluster performance against the Orlando Magic. The Bullets let a 2-point halftime lead get away, and in the fourth quarter, when they had a chance to take the lead after shutting down the Magic, they were unable to take the next step. Now, they're back at .500.

The Bullets just plain aren't hustling. They gave up 18(!) offensive rebounds to the Magic. They sent the Magic to the free throw line 28 times and got only 15 attempts for themselves. (Further, they only made 8 of those attempts.) At least they collected 12 blocks and 10 steals, but they failed to seal out on the boards and paid dearly.

Lorenzo Williams continues to sit out games with his sore knee. And considering the foul trouble Muresan was in (6 fouls in 21 minutes trying to guard Rony Seikaly), Williams' presence could have been used. So, let's just forget this little loss. Although it seems to be yet another example of the average play the Bullets have had this season.
