24 January 1997. Atlanta Hawks 117, Washington Bullets 105 (OT) (record: 20-21)
Game leaders: Webber (23 points), Howard (14 rebounds), Strickland (10 assists)
It's the halfway mark of the season (41 games), and the Bullets have a record under .500. Why am I not surprised? And do you know what the scary fact is? The Bullets had this exact same record after 41 games last year. This is NOT a good sign, folks. The Bullets started have missed 10 games this season (most by Muresan), yet they stand at a completely average record.
I guess I should also talk about the game. Such as, the Bullets allowed a CBA refugee score 26 points, including a crazy 3-pointer to tie the game with about 5 seconds left in regulation. James also tied a team-record by hitting 8 3-pointers in the game. The Hawks shot 15 of 30 3-pointers for the game.
This is a game the Bullets let get away. They committed a season-low 7 turnovers during the game, usually a good sign of a well-played game; the type of game you often win. They held the Hawks to 14 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 7-point deficit, but when they needed the defensive stop the most, they failed. They crumbled in the overtime period, being outscored 19-7 in those 5 minutes. They are now 1-4 in overtime.
