CWebb Was Dissed And Pissed, But The Bullets Put Magic To Rest

28 January 1997. Washington Bullets 102, Orlando Magic 82 (record: 22-21)
Game leaders: Howard (26 points), Webber, Muresan (14 rebounds), Strickland (8 assists)

It was not a good start to the day for CWebb. He got dissed by the coaches of the NBA by not being selected to the All Star game next week. He followed that up with one of his quietest (in terms of emotional release) games of the year. After the game, he would only reply, "No comment." Later, he expanded: "I'm not going to think about it. It just makes you numb."

Injuries Delay Legler's Return
First, it was the knee. Then, hamstring soreness. Now, a cut on his head. Well, the last one wouldn't have kept him out, but Legler just wants to get back on the court and play.
This was a key game for the Bullets. The Orlando Magic were even with the Bullets in the standings at .500, although they've played 4 fewer games. The Magic also finally have their starting 5 playing together, and they've been on a mini-winning streak to climb back into playoff contention. Dennis Scott even bought 72 tickets for friends and relatives to watch him in this game.

It was not Scott's night. He was 0 for 10 in the game, with 0 points. Despite that, the Magic hung around for about 2 1/2 quarters before the Bullets put them away. The Bullets rebounded extremely well, (54 total, with their starting frontcourt all finishing with at least 10 rebounds). They shot 52% from the field. They got 18 points from Tracy Murray off the bench. Gheorghe Muresan even delivered an accidental knockout blow to Magic forward Horace Grant (AVI/Quicktime).

The Bullets now face their longest remaining road trip of the season - 4 games. Unfortunately, they will play 3 tough teams on this trip - Seattle, Los Angeles Lakers, and Utah. Every win this team can get is big. However, if they play like they did in this game, rebounding well and playing defense, they should be in every one of these games.
