CWebb Talks About Race And Athletics

Chris Webber got a chance to do something different on television, something that one wouldn't necessarily expect athletes to do. He got involved in ESPN's "Sports in Black and White" town hall discussion at Howard University, which was aired nationwide on ESPN.

Chris more than held his own with the panel, which included sociologist Harry Edwards, a University of California-Berkeley professor who also works as a consultant for San Francisco-area professional teams; Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown; baseball Hall of Famer Joe Morgan; NCAA President Gene Corrigan; and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

The Washington Post provided a summary of some of the panel discussion in its Sunday Sports edition. While Chris initially intended to stay mostly quiet, he just couldn't. And when he spoke, he spoke intelligently and smartly, because in reality he was also serving as an example of the today's purportedly "spoiled" athlete.

Read up on it (although details of the program are scarce on the Web). But Chris continues to show what an intelligent and thoughtful young man he is.
