CWebb Hosts A Big Birthday Bash At The Warriors' Expense

1 March 1997. Washington Bullets 118, Golden State Warriors 108 (record: 26-31)
Game leaders: Howard (25 points), Webber (15 rebounds), Webber, Strickland (10 assists)

What a birthday celebration for CWebb. He turned 24 on this day, and his favorite nemesis (and former employer), the Golden State Warriors, came to town. And he continues to extract his pound of flesh from the Warriors with yet another win and triple double (23 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists). He now has 7 career triple doubles, and 3 straight against the Warriors (dating to last year).

The game really wasn't as close as the score might indicate. The Bullets lead 95-75 after 3 quarters and then got a little sloppy toward the end. The Warriors had gotten with 7 points with just under 2 minutes left, but the Bullets eventually put this one away.

They definitely got a scare from Warriors guard Latrell Sprewell, who continues to torch the Bullets. He had 40 tonight, after getting 43 in the game in Golden State. He had 14 points in the first quarter alone. But the Warriors have little support for Sprewell, and he often tries to do things on his own. Not showing the team spirit, are we, Latrell?

Thus ends the Bullets 4 game home stand. Next up is Philadelphia on the road, then a home-and-home series with the Miami Heat, who are playing without injured center Alonzo Mourning. Key games if the Bullets want to climb back in the playoff race.
