Legler Gets More Surgery, Ponders His Free Agency Options

It was bound to happen, given that Tim Legler did not appear to be operating at 100% during the season. He was especially limited after he strained his posterior capsule in his right knee during a Nets game. According to him, he was only operating at about 80% effectiveness following that injury.

He's hoping that this minor arthroscopic surgery will return him to his 1995-96 form. It's a simple procedure, compared to his previous reconstructive surgery, and has a very high rate of success. I believe that he will return to his old form, if only a touch slower laterally (maybe). He should be off the leg for only about 5 days, then it's back to a short regimin of rehabilitation and basketball workouts.

Legler, though a free agent, is favoring returning to the Bullets next season (according to the Washington Post print article). He was encouraged by his season-wrapup talk with coach Bernie Bickerstaff last week, and GM Wes Unseld has stated publicly that he believes that Legler will return to his old form.

He goes in for the surgery today (the article does not say what location). Let's hope that he comes out of this as good as new. If you want to send any get-well messages to Tim, send them to the fan mail address.
