God Wants To Play For The Wizards

He won't be going back to Providence after all. God Shammgod, the first of the Wizards' two second-round picks, intends to try and make the Wizards roster this fall, according to the story by J.A. Adande of the Washington Post.

He knows he has a weakness - consistent perimeter shooting - but he plans on improving in that area. In fact, he's got the cockiness to think that it isn't as bad as people think: "It's a matter of just taking shots. In college I shot five times a game; three of those times were layups. You can't tell a person that's a shooter from taking two jump shots a game. When I was in high school, I was a good shooter. Roles change as you get older. You've got to do what coach tells you to do."

In the meantime, the Wizards hope that Shammgod makes the team. If he does, he'll be fighting Chris Whitney for some playing time. Whitney says he'd like to return to the team, though there will be several teams needing point guards who will throw some cash his way. The Wizards are considering playing Whitney at shooting guard some to increase his playing time and take advantage of his offensive skills.

However, that scenario gives rise to another possibility, because the minutes at shooting guard are pretty limited with Cheaney, Murray, and Legler all looking for time. Unless...
