Shackleford Added To Training Camp Roster

Well, with the rash of injuries, it makes sense that the Wizards would add yet another gimpy player to the training camp roster. They finally got Charles Shackleford signed to a non-guaranteed contract on Monday night, according to Ric Bucher of the Washington Post.

Shackleford has played 5 years in the NBA, but spent last year in Greece. His reputation is as a rebounder, where his per minute averages are up there with Jayson Williams and Dennis Rodman. He led his league in Greece in rebounding last year.

Unfortunately, he also has an arthritic left knee, which had some surgery back in May. The Miami Heat checked him out earlier this summer and passed on him. He's out of game shape and showed on the court that he was favoring his left leg. He's a long-shot to make the team, but he's got enough tantalizing potential that the Wizards might keep an eye on him, even if they release him.

As for the rest of the team, the aches grow. Calbert Cheaney missed yesterday's practice with a sore left knee, and Ben Wallace sat out with bruised ribs. Further, Harvey Grant had a family emergency that had him returning to Georgia yesterday. With all of the problems, the Wizards cancelled last night's practice, at the request of team trainer Kevin Johnson.

The good news? CWebb is getting healthy and should be ready to return to the court today. They'll need it, just to be able to scrimmage appropriately.
